Located in the Village of Coboconk, steps away from Canada's Smallest Jail, the Coby Boathouse is among the last remaining two-storey boathouses along the Trent Severn Waterway—one of North America’s longest canal routes, connecting Georgian Bay to Lake Ontario. It occupies the same piece of land as one of the town's oldest farmhouses (where the owners currently live) built in 1889.
Built in the mid-1970s (when zoning and permits were lax) the boathouse is an imposing 600-square-foot structure, with a wetslip (inverted deck) below and a 2-bedroom apartment above. Recent updates include new pine floors and ceilings, an open concept kitchen with bar seating, and high-efficiency toilet and propane fireplace. A 30-foot deck looking toward Balsam Lake offers a picturesque vista at all times of the year.
Complementing modern amenities are a number of vintage fixtures—stained glass window and vanity, louvered closet doors, 70s pull-out loveseat, and a clawfoot tub—for a "rustic-chic" feel. Arts and crafts by local artists also pepper the walls and shelves—some of them for sale.
When you stay at the Coby Boathouse you enjoy the best of both worlds: the natural, rugged beauty of the Kawarthas and the creature-comforts of daily life, with many shops and services within walking distance. Located in-town, mere minutes from 'Main Street', the Boathouse is perfectly positioned on the North side of the Gull River, opposite the marina, so when looking westward all the eye can see is pristine water and forest.
